Liz and I flew in together Friday morning at 8am and my mom arrived at 9am. Michelle picked us up and we promptly headed into downtown San Fran. Liz had heard of a great little restaurant called Mama's Cafe so we decided to check it out. It definitely is a very popular place since there was already a line out the door and down the street. About 45 minutes later we sat down at a table and ate the most delicious omelets, eggs benedict, potatoes and french toast. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!
After "brunch" we walked all around San Fran enjoying the hustle and bustle of China Town, the Pier boardwalks and Union Square. We even climbed aboard a huge sailboat that had just docked and was offering free tours. It was a large group of student sailors and teachers from Russia. They sail all over the world and stop in different ports to let people see their boat and also for them to see new places. Most of them spoke very broken English but we were able to understand that they have some crazy adventures at sea.
Saturday we all squeezed into the car and drove down to Santa Cruz beach and pier. It was a little chilly but still very fun and beautiful. I took some fun family pictures of Nate, Michelle and baby Brooks. From the beach we drove up the coast on Hwy 1 back to Oakland where we ate at CrepeVine - another very delicious restaurant.
Sunday we went to church, ate lunch and then headed to Muir Woods to check out the giant Redwoods. Mom opted to stay behind with baby Brooks since he was pretty tired of being in the car. Muir woods was amazing! The trees were ginormous, almost breathtaking. Liz and I were wishing we had a tent and our camping gear and a few extra days to trek through all the trails. On our way back to the airport (sadly Liz could only stay till Sunday night) we stopped at the perfect view point of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Fransisco. We hiked around an old navel fort and took lots of pictures of the view before driving down into San Fran. Nate drove us all around the Golden Gate Park and then down the crazy Lombard street. Then we were on to the airport to say goodbye to Liz.
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday were much slower and very relaxing. Mom, Michelle, baby and I went to the park, lounged at the pool, and did lots of shopping. Of course there was a ton of time spent playing with, kissing and holding baby Brooks! The kid is all smiles and all over the place! I missed him the moment they dropped Mom and me off at the BART. Hopefully I see them all very soon. Thanks again girls for the perfect little vacation!
